Sunset Lighting

Finding the right time of the day to shoot can be troublesome for beginner shooters. I for one love shooting on overcast days and at sunset (but who doesn't love sunset). When shooting it is always important to find the light in your photos and to make sure that the light you are using portrays the right kind of mind you are wanting your photos to have. Sunsets can also be tricky because the light is super golden and can make your subject look too yellow. The image to the left was taken in an open field near my house. I made sure to face the subject towards the light because I wanted dramatic, in your face (literally) framing her body.

Other ways to work with sunset lighting is by using the light to fill the air around the subject. With this usage of light you can expose the camera to the subject and have a halo-like effect around your subject. If you at all good at photoshop you can darken the edges of the frame and lighten the subject to create a photo like the one to the right.
To finish off this post I will leave you with an image that was captured at the end of our shoot as the sun was actually setting. This image is one of my favorite because it completely caught the subject off guard as she had no idea it was being taken. Brittany, the subject, is full of energy and it showed throughout her pictures. Having a subject who enjoys life and loves to show it makes for wonderful photos. Seeing life through a lens and showing it to the world is my greatest accomplish and my greatest fear- I am learning everyday and love sharing my advice with you, isn't that what the older generations are for?
