"Lights, camera, action" runs through my head while preparing for the wedding I attended on Saturday, March 1st, 2014. It may not have been a movie set but getting ready for the wedding sure did feel like getting ready for a movie premier and possibly a pageant. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so caring about my looks and how I dress, maybe then it would only take me twenty minutes to get ready for an event but instead there's a voice that is always in the back of my head. This voice sounds a lot like my mom's voice, "Katie, how will you find a husband looking like that." Don't get me wrong, I love that she has groomed me into a young lady that wants to look her best when going to an event and believe me, she isn't trying to marry me off at 24, but dang it's expensive being single!
When you're single, or at least when you're me and single, the cost of getting all pretty can add up quickly. As I sat on my bed the night before the wedding I began to add up everything it cost for me to prepare for this magnificent event. Fabulous gold and black sequined dress (check), new black and gold clutch (check), nude patent pointy toe pumps (check), now time to move onto the fun stuff! Now because I am a thrifty person I wouldn't dare go get a spray tan in a salon but I was so ghostly pale I needed to do something drastic and fast- taking a weekend trip to the Bahamas was unfortunately not an option at this point. Being that it was 7pm the night before the wedding I pulled on my Ugg boots, big t-shirt, sweatshirt and shorts (looking like the typical UGA sorority girl, but I didn't care) and headed down to Target. I picked up a gel instant tanner, press-on nails, some hairspray, false eyelashes, gel inserts for my heels to make my dancing more comfortable and I was on my way to looking fabulous. The point I am trying to get at is that it is quite costly to be single these days. Here is the break down of everything: Dress: $17 (originally $98) Clutch: $12 Heels: Already had them Tanner: $8 Nails: $4 (what! that's right $4 because I use KISS Nails ha!) Eyelashes: $4 Gel Inserts: $10 A new point and shoot camera: $69 (originally $119) - who wants to carry around a bulky DSLR when you want to be spontaneous Total: $160 All of this was all worth it in the end though because I got to see two of my best friends marry each other and such a sweet wedding it was! Can I get me a man before I go broke trying to find him though?!?!?! Love you all and remember to keep smiling- xoxo, Katie
