Headshots are always good to have around, whether you're a student, lawyer, actress or superstar extraordinaire. There will one day come a time when you wish you had a professional picture of yourself vs. a selfie on your smartphone. Headshots work just like any other session, the lighting needs to be just right, clear forecast and clean, crisp clothes.
I was asked last minute to shoot an event on Saturday morning for a brunch and bike ride that was happening in Dunwoody. For my non-Atlantans reading, it was storming big time and raining cats and dogs outside which does not make for ideal shooting. I worked through the rain but at the end was asked to take a few headshots of a new employee {of the company I was shooting for}. Of course, I was going to do this but I had to find a good place to shoot so last minute. Here are my tips for shooting last minute in overcast: - Find as much sun light as possible and if no sunlight is available then avoid shaded areas - Find a solid background to place your subject against or move them away from a busy background and shoot with a long range lens to allow for the background to drop out of focus (we shot behind the restaurant by the dumpster and the side of the restaurant in the bushes) - Turn your subject to about a 45 degree angle, very few people are fantastic from the front and I did not want a profile shot - I had my subject kneel down so I was shooting slightly down at him since he was taller than me which disguised anything messy in the background that I wanted to hide Once I had the right pictures that I wanted we wrapped it up and the new client was very pleased. If you would like to book your headshots today please email [email protected] and we can discuss pricing and scheduling. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

"Lights, camera, action" runs through my head while preparing for the wedding I attended on Saturday, March 1st, 2014. It may not have been a movie set but getting ready for the wedding sure did feel like getting ready for a movie premier and possibly a pageant. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so caring about my looks and how I dress, maybe then it would only take me twenty minutes to get ready for an event but instead there's a voice that is always in the back of my head. This voice sounds a lot like my mom's voice, "Katie, how will you find a husband looking like that." Don't get me wrong, I love that she has groomed me into a young lady that wants to look her best when going to an event and believe me, she isn't trying to marry me off at 24, but dang it's expensive being single!
When you're single, or at least when you're me and single, the cost of getting all pretty can add up quickly. As I sat on my bed the night before the wedding I began to add up everything it cost for me to prepare for this magnificent event. Fabulous gold and black sequined dress (check), new black and gold clutch (check), nude patent pointy toe pumps (check), now time to move onto the fun stuff! Now because I am a thrifty person I wouldn't dare go get a spray tan in a salon but I was so ghostly pale I needed to do something drastic and fast- taking a weekend trip to the Bahamas was unfortunately not an option at this point. Being that it was 7pm the night before the wedding I pulled on my Ugg boots, big t-shirt, sweatshirt and shorts (looking like the typical UGA sorority girl, but I didn't care) and headed down to Target. I picked up a gel instant tanner, press-on nails, some hairspray, false eyelashes, gel inserts for my heels to make my dancing more comfortable and I was on my way to looking fabulous. The point I am trying to get at is that it is quite costly to be single these days. Here is the break down of everything: Dress: $17 (originally $98) Clutch: $12 Heels: Already had them Tanner: $8 Nails: $4 (what! that's right $4 because I use KISS Nails ha!) Eyelashes: $4 Gel Inserts: $10 A new point and shoot camera: $69 (originally $119) - who wants to carry around a bulky DSLR when you want to be spontaneous Total: $160 All of this was all worth it in the end though because I got to see two of my best friends marry each other and such a sweet wedding it was! Can I get me a man before I go broke trying to find him though?!?!?! Love you all and remember to keep smiling- xoxo, Katie More wine please was probably most said phrase of last nights girls night in. What started out as dinner at Alyssa's place before going out on the town turned into a night of laughter, book talk, lots and lots of wine, and so much laughter.
It's always nice to get dressed up in the awesome heels I buy but can't walk more than two steps in (but that's what great heels are for right, to make all the heads turn, but only turning because I'm busting my butt on the dance floor from slipping on the ditzy girls spilled drink) and the sexy dress that stays tucked behind my big comfy sweaters. What I thought would be one of those nights turned out to be the opposite but just as awesome. A night of wonderful ladies, wonderful dinner and $3 wine. A night that didn't cost me an arm and a leg to go out, a night without the pushing and shoving of all the Atlanta housewife wannabes, not dealing with the bachelor douche-bags who swear they played for the braves when in reality turned out to be that they were only playing for a rec league called the braves based in backwoods nowhere. It was nice to leave all that behind for some real talk time. Throughout dinner Alyssa starts talking to Bianca and I about how we should read more and to join her book club that she wants to start. With every book she mentioned we simply replied with, "Oh yeah I saw that movie, it was really good," or "Can't I just watch the movie?" Alyssa mentioned that The Secret Garden is one of her favorite books and as a child she would always imagine making a secret garden for herself. Myself and Bianca agreed that is was pretty cool to imagine that too while watching the movie, quickly Alyssa's eyes start rolling and we all bust out in laughter. Needless to say, I do need to read more since I have an entire shelf of my bookshelf dedicated to Nicholas Sparks books because I am the total hopeless romantic that imagines my life playing out as one of his books, and of course his movie stars me, naturally! Bianca and I later moved on to the subject of our birthdays. Although our birthdays are a little over half a year away we recently found out that we were born in the same hospital only a day apart. Little did we know that we would be meeting 24 years later after spending our first waking hours nestled in cribs next to each other (that's at least how we would like to picture it). "Reunited and it feels so good..." hahaha. So you might be thinking right about now, "Well you missed out on your eye candy because you stayed home." Well you would be wrong, The Fast and The Furious came on TV and might I add a moment of silence for Paul Walker, HE WAS SO SEXY! It's such a shame that he had to go so soon but at least we were able to oogle over him for the last part of the night as he raced around in his little "Mexi" car and oh lordy can we please discuss this "Drive and stare method," I'm pretty sure I would be freaking out inside and out and loudly voicing my opinion on the matter while simultaneously peeing my pants like a little girl, talk about the ride of your life! Now to end the night, I feel like I have rambled but I usually do ramble a little bit, that's why my jokes end up being so terribly and desperately aweful! God bless the man that ends up having to listen to them the rest of his life :). Love you all and have a blessed week, don't forget to smile! Katie Happy new year, I hope yours was as fabulous as you are! I know I am a bit late on writing this post, I have been gearing up for the big year I plan on having and making up for the time I lost when I was sick, and when I say sick I mean I wanted to curl up in a ball and die rather than live thru one more day of that stupid H1N1 crap I contracted. Back to what I was saying, I have big plans for this 2014 year and I hope you will be a part of those plans with me.
To recap on 2013, I gained some pretty amazing clients and started shooting weddings. I have been involved in the wedding process as a photographer previously but was never the head photographer. If you didn't know this already here is glimpse into what I go thru being a new wedding photographer: -Although I am new to the game I still know what I am doing. -Right now my prices are lower than they should be just to gain the clients that are iffy about hiring someone who hasn't shot a lot of weddings. -It's hard to get wedding clients because they are scared. -All my wedding clients have been extremely amazing (can I put those two words together?) about the whole process and have welcomed me into their lives with open arms. -Everyone has been pleased with all their photos. Basically what I am getting at is that when you come across my Facebook page or my website looking for a wedding photographer you can count on me to get the job done. Everyone needs someone to help them get started and that is all I ask of you! Okay, rant done, now back to my 2013 recap. The skills I learned and the talents I cultivated on the past year have helped me to become an even stronger photographer, with these skills I have big shoots planned for 2014. I am working on planning out more fashion shoots, these kind of shoots are my absolute favorite alongside shooting anything that captures the love between one person and another! If you are interested in working together to make an idea come to life please talk to me because I want to see them happen and I want to be a part of those ideas. I can't wait for it to get a little bit warmer so these shoots can come to life! Happy Belated New Year! |
